March 25, 2011. . . . NEW LINKS for your perusal!

As may be evident, our interests here include livestock breeds in decline or threatened with extinction. Efforts by the ALBC ( see above) are vigorously devoted to rescuing and restoring those breeds of cattle, sheep, goats, horses, swine, and poultry that were important to our nation's past and have an important new role in the future of sustainable agriculture across the USA. Even rabbits are listed with American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.

Visit its website by clicking www. albc-usa.org and consider joining. You'll receive a very professional newsletter and helpful reference material concerning the importance of this effort and how it complements today's interest in local ag marketing, genetic diversity, and back-to-basics farming and animal husbandry.

As a former cattle guy, breed journal editor, and livestock photographer, I find these breeds continue to attract my attention. You might find the websites listed below entertaining and informative as well. Here are just a few. More to follow:

Our website, Appraising Your Novel.com, has undergone a complete revision now with a section devoted to FAQs and an explanation of The Narrative where novel structure is discussed and substantive editing is described.

At the summersrun.wordpress.com blog, there are photos of child actors who endeared themselves to millions of movie goers back in the 1940s and Fifties especially. Margaret O'Brien, for one. She continues appearing in films periodically, following a career that began nearly seventy years ago!

Also, many filmgoers fondly remember Jane Powell, especially her leading role in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, opposite Howard Keel. Tidbits and photos from her early days are featured at summers.wordpress.com alongside Claude Jarman, Jr.

Noteworthy is the recent group photo featuring Jarman, Russ Tamblyn, Dean Stockwell, and two leading ladies who began their careers as child stars, Jane Powell and Elizabeth Taylor during the latter's high school graduation at a buffet hosted by MGM Studios. Also pictured is Tom Irish, from the film with Taylor, Father of the Bride. Check out the blog at: summersrun.wordpress.com

Also, pictured there is an item concerning MGM's Little Red Schoolhouse where child actors were taught and tutored. Claude Jarman, Jr. and Jane Powell are pictured in class.
